Salary: circa £45,000 – based in London.
Oak Foundation wishes to appoint a Programme Officer to support Adrian Arena, the Director of its International Human Rights Programme. Further details of the programme can be found at www.oakfnd.org/actvities/humanrights.php. It currently has around 65 active grants operating worldwide.
The job involves assisting in the management of a substantial and well respected portfolio of grants to international human rights organisations. It includes:
· Managing the responsibilities of a grant portfolio from the point of initial assessment and thebdrafting of recommendations to grant to be considered by the Director and eventually by thebPresident and Trustees.
· Monitoring and evaluating grants on paper, by phone and through site visits.
· Contributing to the strategic development of the programme including participating in planningbexercises and professional conferences and seminars.
To be considered for this post you must have:
· A university degree or equivalent.
· A minimum of seven years experience working for a human rights NGO or institution specialising in human rights.
· The right to live and work in the UK.
You must be willing to:
· Work full-time from Oak’s office in Central London.
· Be able to travel up to 30% of your working time for up to two weeks at a time.
Essential Skills:
· Fluency in written and spoken English.
· An ability to write concisely, coherently and interestingly in English.
· An excellent grasp of the intellectual and legal issues underpinning the Foundation’s growing International Human Rights Programme.
· An ability to work both independently and as part of a small but growing team.
· The confidence and presence to conduct meetings and negotiate with some of the leading figures in the human rights movement.
· An interest in international affairs and the ability to understand the big picture.
· The judgement to identify the gaps and opportunities in human rights funding.
· The common sense to focus on practical ways of achieving the Foundation’s aims in this field.
· Computer skills: word processing, database entry and internet based research.
Other skills of interest:
· A second major language such as Russian, Portuguese, Spanish or Arabic.
Benefits:
· Salary of circa £45,000 per annum depending on skills and6 experience; pension and health benefits on confirmation of employment (after three months).
